CODE OF ETHICS

coaching is grounded in integrity, responsibility, transparency, and respect for the dignity and autonomy of every client.

The principles below serve as a code of ethical action guiding professional conduct. They do not prescribe rigid rules, but establish values and standards within which the Coach practices freely and responsibly in service to clients.

These standards operate within the context of the laws of the country in which coaching services are provided.

These standards align with internationally recognized coaching ethics reflected by organizations such as the International Coach Federation (ICF), European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC), and the International Association of Coaching (IAC).

Breaches of the Code

If a client or sponsor believes that a breach of this Ethics & Standards Code has occurred, the following process applies:

First, the client or sponsor is encouraged to attempt to resolve the matter directly with the Coach.

If resolution cannot be reached, a formal complaint may be submitted for review.

Preamble

Coaching is a professional partnership that engages clients in a thought-provoking and reflective process designed to support clarity, alignment, and personal or professional effectiveness.

A professional coaching relationship exists when there is a clear agreement or contract defining the responsibilities of both the coach and the client.

These ethical standards are designed to guide professional conduct, inform clients, and promote public confidence in coaching as a professional service.

These standards are to be read and understood as a whole. No priority significance is attached to the sequence in which they appear.

Unless adopted by a regulatory authority, these standards do not have the force of law. However, their adoption by professional bodies may establish a recognized standard of care.

Section 1: Professional Conduct

1. Coaches will not knowingly make any public or written statements that are untrue or misleading about their services, credentials, or professional role.

2. Coaches will accurately represent their qualifications, experience, certifications, and scope of practice.

3. Coaches will recognize and honor the contributions of others and will not present the work or intellectual property of others as their own.

4. Coaches will remain attentive to personal issues that may impair, conflict with, or interfere with their professional effectiveness and will seek appropriate support or suspend services when necessary.

5. Coaches will conduct themselves ethically in all coaching, mentoring, training, and supervisory contexts.

6. Coaches will conduct and report any research or evaluation activities ethically, with informed consent, and in compliance with applicable laws.

7. Coaches will maintain, store, and dispose of records responsibly in a manner that protects confidentiality, privacy, and security.

Section 2: Conflicts of Interest

8. Coaches will seek to avoid conflicts of interest and will openly disclose any actual or potential conflicts.

9. Coaches will disclose any anticipated compensation from third parties related to referrals or sponsorship arrangements.

10. Coaches will only barter for services, goods, or non-monetary compensation when it does not impair the coaching relationship.

11. Coaches will not exploit the coaching relationship for personal, professional, or financial gain beyond agreed-upon compensation.

Section 3: Professional Conduct with Clients

12. Coaches will not knowingly misrepresent what clients or sponsors can expect from the coaching process.

13. Coaches will not provide information or advice they know or believe to be false or misleading.

14. Coaches will establish clear agreements or contracts with clients and will honor all agreements made in the context of professional coaching relationships.

15. Coaches will ensure clients understand the nature of coaching, the limits of confidentiality, financial arrangements, and the terms of the coaching agreement.

16. Coaches will maintain clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries within the coaching relationship.

17. Coaches will not engage in sexual or romantic relationships with current clients or sponsors.

18. Coaches will respect the client’s right to terminate coaching at any time, subject to the provisions of the coaching agreement.

19. Coaches will encourage clients to seek alternative support if another coach or professional resource would better serve the client.

20. Coaches will recommend medical, psychological, legal, or other professional support when appropriate.

Section 4: Confidentiality & Privacy

21. Coaches will maintain the strictest level of confidentiality with client and sponsor information unless disclosure is required by law or there is a credible risk of harm.

22. Coaches will establish clear agreements regarding how coaching information may be shared among coach, client, and sponsor when applicable.

23. Coaches will clarify confidentiality policies when acting as trainers, mentors, or supervisors.

24. Coaches will ensure that any assistants, collaborators, contractors, or support personnel adhere to these confidentiality and ethical standards.
